Her unique style has landed her a spot in the elusive Top 50 of Lilla Rogers' 2013 Global Talent Search. <Oh, yeah!>

Before I decided to become a designer, I read a lot of inspiring stories of artists. A favourite resource was Another Girl At Play, a website that featured female artists who successfully built and ran their own creative businesses. Now one particular girl stole my heart with the extreme cuteness of WHATEVER she made! 

Lori Joy Smith is a versatile artist who makes the cutest, most endearing illustrations...

... the most charming paintings

... and the prettiest fabric pieces.

One blogger I used to follow had one of her nursery walls decorated with Lori Joy's portraits. I can still clearly remember how it looked like and how much my heart pounded with envy each time I saw it. Too bad the blog was deleted. :(

By renowned illustrator Bigsoil (Hong Kong). Playfully illustrated postcards for the benefit of the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf. Sold years back at local Pizza Hut stores. 

laura berger

One of my friends once had a pet llama on her birthday wish list. 'A llama?!', I asked. I had no idea how it looked like, but I certainly loved how the name sounded. I then searched the net to find out more about this llama thing and serendipitously landed on this lovely shop owned by Laura Berger (Chicago). Gosh, her llamas were (and still are) the cutest and the most adorable of all! 

Apart from stinken' cute llamas, Laura paints and draws other interesting objects and creatures... all in that charming style that is unique to hers. You know that eclectic mix of cute, crude and weird... blended so perfectly that it just turns out downright beautiful? Yuh, that's her signature. (I wish I had the word. But you know what I'm sayin' right?)

Above all, I love the way Laura depicts the beauty and importance of connecting to our inner selves, the people around us, and the world we are in.

night owl paper goods

Cute illustrations printed on wood? Why not?!!! Alabama-based studio, Night Owl Paper Goods, does just that... printing 'modern yet folksy' artwork on eco-friendly sustainably harvested birch wood and 100% post consumer recycled paper. I first learned about them through the National Stationery Show website years back and was swept away with their distinctive craft. Boy, am I happy to add this lovely jotter to my growing stash. :)

marimekko

I got this beautiful sketchbook from Marimekko, a Finnish company that designs and manufactures a plethora of things featuring whimsical patterns in rich, bold, delicious colours. Their products include pouches, bags, pillow cases, notebooks, clothes, cooking mitts and a whole lot more! If you're like me and you love whimsy... you'll definitely find heaven in Marimekko. :)

okay tina

Okay Tina is a designer and illustrator who specialises in extremely cute childhood characters. Her long list of credentials includes having worked with huge brands like Levi's and Samsung. Feel free to check out her equally endearing website, www.okaytina.com.

Amy Pike (Wisconsin, USA),  creator of Heart2Handbags, makes the nicest fabric pouches. I love her choice of whimsical fabrics and her unwavering persnickety workmanship. The clean stitches inside and around each piece make the whole thing pop out so beautifully. Her favourite fabric designers include Alexander Henry, Michael Miller and Amy Butler.

I love the details of these beautiful post cards illustrated by Helena Tay (Perth, Australia). Her shop, LittleMoAndFriends, is certainly one of my favourites on Etsy. Apart from paper goods, Helena makes jewellery and dolls that feature her own illustrations. You may learn more about her and her art on www.littlemoandfriends.com.

sumikko gurashi (san-x)

Sumikko Gurashi by San-X (Japan) is (by far) my favourite kawaii. People think I'm too old to keep a collection of notepads and other paper goods featuring these cuddly creatures... I honestly don't care! :) 

Apart from the characters' inherent cuteness, I love how busy they seem and the little story that each illustration depicts.
